Sir Admiral Nathanos Darksword

Political Affiliation: The Hapes Consortium, Commonwealth

Titles: Admiral of the Royal Hapan Navy; Commanding Officer of the Conquerer class Battleship The Crown’s Blade

Age: 35

Brief History:

Nathanos Darksword is the first cousin to the Crowned Prince of Hapes, Dakkon Darksword. He is the son of the younger brother of the former Queen Mother, Dakkon’s mother. Nathanos’s family holds claim to large amounts of land on Hapes, and the family is not only rich through royalty but through wealth acquired through a prosperous family business in jewelry.

As a member of the royal family, Nathanos was brought up to know publicity. His father Jameth, and his mother Isabelle were “politicians first, jewelers second”. As their heir, Nathanos was expected to continue both traditions of involvement in Consortium politics and the family jewelry business. As he grew up, however, Nathanos showed no interest in pursuing either of the goals his parents had set for him.

At a young age, Nathanos developed a keen affinity to art, and no lack of skill at the craft either. His parents, at Isabelle’s prompting, supported him in his newfound love. Jameth was not as eager as Isabelle had been, but he eventually conceded, admitting it was a good hobby to have, and also believing that their support in Nathanos’s art might prompt him to concede to their wishes that he took the reigns of the family business and their active role in the public eye.

But Nathanos grew older, and it began to grow obvious that he aspired to make art a central part of his life, and that drawing and painting just as a hobby would not do. Nathanos dropped occasional hints to his parents that he was interested in painting for a living. Each time it was suggested, any semblance of approval left his parents. They wanted him to follow their dreams, not his own.

In Nathanos’s late teens, the tension between him and his parents boiled over, and after a heated bout of yelling between them, Nathanos stormed out of the house and did not come back for a few days. The resulting scandal lost his parent’s much favor in the public eye. They knew they had to do something about their renegade son, and it was becoming more and more obvious that he was firm in his resolve not to pursue a career in jewelry or politics, but in art.

A month after Nathanos had run away, they had enlisted him in the Royal Hapan naval academy.

For the first few months, Nathanos caused nothing but trouble. He did not want to be there, and made that obvious at every opportunity. But slowly and surely, the sense of his parents was, literally, beaten into him. Nathanos was punished into submission, and for one month he was a broken man, resigned to a future he had absolutely no interest in.

But soon, salvation came to Nathanos at the realization that he had the same degree of skill at leadership and command in combat situations that he had at painting, if not more. Nathanos excelled in his classes, finishing first or close to it in all of them. His rocky start in the Royal Hapan Navy quickly morphed into a bright future.

At the end of his time in the academy, Nathanos opted to go career military, and skyrocketed through the ranks. It is possible this is owed in many ways to his royal heritage, but Nathanos also possessed the skill necessary. It was not long before he captained his own ship, a Hapan Battle Dragon named Mist’s Call.

In his thirty second year, Nathanos was knighted by the Ta’Chume for his valor in combat with a Lorell Pirate raid upon a cluster planet, during which Nathanos’s Battle Dragon, the closest to the planet at the time, held off the brunt of the raid until reinforcements could arrive, suffering only superficial damage.

Shortly after, Nathanos was promoted to become one of the few male Admirals in the Hapan Navy, and was given command of the Conquerer class Battleship The Crown’s Blade as his flagship.

As both a Darksword and a high ranking officer in the Hapan Navy, Nathanos has been forced to achieve one of his parents’ goals, and has become quite a public figure in the Consortium. He is still not on speaking terms with either of his parents. Nathanos is a firm supported of the Hapan annexation into the Commonwealth, mainly because it, for the most part, lessens the extended royal family’s influence in Hapan politics, only allowing the Crowned Prince a veto in important matters.
