History

Brailey Costigan was born to upper-middle class parents in Genarius. His father, Shamus Costigan (Now 68) was an executive for manufacturing conglomerate Naescorcom. Shamus Costigan met his future wife (and Brailey's mother), Kyleez Patrick (Now 65) on Corellia which is where both traced their ancestry. Though, once Shamus Costigan received a lucrative job offer from Naescorcom, he was forced to move his wife and newborn daughter Margaret to Genarius.

Shamus Costigan was relocated to a neighborhood created and maintained by Naescorcom on Varna Biqua, a large floating city which was known as being a cesspool of chaos and illegal activity. Though the home, and neighborhood the Costigans lived in was a very nice, well kept area; the rest of Varna Biqua was over-ridden with crime. Varna Biqua was home to a docking bay which housed large Republic and Thaereian ships. Upon dissolution of the Galactic Republic, the Varna Biqua docking bay was used to house the few ships which made up the Genarius defense fleet.

As a young boy, Brailey always had an affinity for the large cruisers that hung so serenely in the Genarius sky. Varna Biqua seemed like such a strange place to house these beautiful vessels, but perhaps it was that contrast that drove Brailey towards a career in the military.

Growing up, Brailey's parents made a concerted effort not to shelter their children. Though, with their limited wealth and relative seclusion from the rest of the city, it might have been an obvious route to go in raising their children. Instead, the Costigans allowed their children to venture out into the city which caused more than a few problems for the Costigan Clan. Brailey, being the eldest of four brothers (not to mention an older sister) got into more than his fair share of fights.

As Brailey and his brothers grew up, it became easier and easier to avoid trouble as the tight-knit brothers grew up. In the neighborhood the saying, "Fight one Costigan, fight the whole Clan" became very well known. As Brailey entered his late teens, he excelled at sports and became the Captain of the Shockball team at Varna Bella Academy, the private school that his parents had enrolled him and his siblings in. Even though the school was located in Varna Biqua, the proprietors of the facility felt it necessary to change the name to avoid the negative stigma of Varna Biqua.

Instead of going straight to University as his older sister Margaret did, and his parents wanted him to, Brailey Costigan signed up for the Cularin Defense Fleet which was the Naval organization which protected the Cularin system. Later, Genarius joined the Contegorian Confederation and the CDF was taken over by the CC. At first, Brailey was reluctant to embrace the Confederation due to his Genarian pride and feelings about the CDF. Though, Brailey soon found that life in the Contegorian Confederation provided benefits that the CDF never could.

Brailey's younger brother Cyrill followed in Brailey's footsteps but chose to retire from the CDF upon hearing news that Genarius was joining the Confederation. Instead, he chose to go to work for the local police force in Varna Biqua where he was killed in action - though details of his death were sketchy at best. News of his brother's passing drove Brailey Costigan into severe depression. The only thing keeping him afloat was his family, his two remaining brothers, older sister and parents. Although the rest of his family didn't take Cyrill's death well, Brailey was hit the hardest by it. As the oldest brother, he was the one responsible for keeping his brothers safe on the rough streets of Varna Biqua.

The Costigans used their influential position in Varna Biqua to try and gain answers about Cyrill's passing, yet this too proved unsuccessful. No arrests were ever made in the murder of Cryill Costigan. Brailey took a leave of absence for several months to spend time with his family and try to get more information about the case, but was met with resistance at every turn. Brailey contemplated retirement from the Confederation so that he might be closer to his family and perhaps investigate the death of his brother, yet his family convinced him to continue and serve the Confederation, though Brailey Costigan vowed to one day bring his brother's killers to justice.

Brailey Costigan has never been married, and has been accused of being a womanizer which he denies. Against the hopes of his mother who always hoped that Brailey would give her several grand children, Brailey has remained single throughout the years.

Admired by his men, and respected by his peers, Brailey Costigan continues to faithfully serve the Contegorian Confederation as Commodore of the Confederation Navy.
