A new bio. Some of the events in this thread have been reordered to my liking compared to the order in which they were actually posted. Full Name – Kacharraius Tobius Thorton Rank – Vice Admiral Species - Human Age – 35 Gender - Male Height – 6 feet 1 inch Weight – 185 pounds Eyes – Hazel Hair – Brown Planet of Origin – Corellia Force Sensitive – Yes, but Unaware Weapons of Choice – Modified DC-17s Blaster, Holdout Blaster or Disruptor Family – Kach was born the son of wealthy Corellian Nobles. Social Status – Vice Admiral Thorton is currently Moff of the Borderland Protectorate, making him a rather important individual. He is the son of Jerel Thorton, a major stockholder in the Corellian Engineering Corporation and owner and founder of Contruum Space Systems, based on Contruum, which produces several popular though obscure freighter models. Appearance – As a former smuggler quickly driven through the Imperial ranks by a quick tactical mind and skilled abilities at managing people, Thorton has little respect for rules and regulations that he dislikes. He wears his uniform however he sees fit—improperly. He wears his sidearm’s holster too low, on the hip like a gunslinger or smuggler would, and does not strive for everything to be absolutely perfect. When in casual clothing he rarely dresses like a person of his importance. History – Pt. I: Origins Thorton spent his early years traveling the galaxy thanks to his father’s corporate interests. His home was a yacht traveling the Mid-Rim and core planets. Around the age of five his father moved from Corellian Engineering Corporations position of Chief Operations Officer to Chairman of the board, allowing them to move back to Corellia, exposing the young Thorton to family politics that he had been sheltered from up until this time. He had an uncle who was a major stockholder in Loronar, a second cousin who was a Governor of a sector. All parts of his family were extremely jealous of one another and in fierce competition to prove their greatness. Due to his prominent family, starting from his early days of childhood Kach was raised to look, speak, talk, and act in a certain manner. He was surrounded by tutors, image consultants, physicians, childhood care experts, nannies and others all trying to mold him into the perfect little successor to his father’s empire. He was monitored, scrutinized, and evaluated constantly. He was never alone. He was by any measure on the fast track to success and would have undoubtedly received a significant amount of shares in CEC as well as other companies if it weren’t for fate. During a period of extreme violence on Corellia an eleven year old Thorton was kidnapped and held for ransom, which was payed. He never returned to his family, however, because the pirates who did the deed chose to release him on the streets of Corellia instead of returning him to them since that was where they happened to be when the credit transfer came through. On the streets of Corellia he was set loose into the underworld, where he thrived. Thanks to the years of constant attention and never being willingly given time alone, Thorton had developed a rebellious and independent personality. He was smart yet willing to take risks, and a fierce free spirit. As he got older he grew to prominence in one of the local gangs that roamed the bad side of Corellia’s capital, demonstrating himself as a ruthless and efficient leader, leading his gang to the destruction of several rival groups in their area. Thorton had loftier goals than your average individual, however. Many from where he grew up on the streets would have been content leading a gang. But Thorton had his sight set on higher things, as did his friend Jesh Tolli, and together they decided to enter the business of smuggling. Together they became employed by a cargo company that flew cheap, used freighters and military surplus craft. After being sent out on assignment they both stunned their copilots and then got together to sell one craft and then had all identifying markings removed from the other. As a smuggling team, Thorton and Tolli ran guns, spice, passengers, or whatever else it took to pay the bills. Thorton loved it. In smuggling he found adventure and respect for his achievements, not for his genes. Nobody told him what to do. He was damned good at it, too, and before too long he and his copilot Jesh Tolli found themselves as one of the most highly regarded teams in the galaxy. Business was good, but the underworld’s luck didn’t last long. Just as Thorton and Jesh began laying the groundwork for a full scale smuggling operation with multiple pilots and ships under their control the Black Sun began an offensive against Smuggling bases around Huttspace in an attempt to weaken the Hutt Cartels spice operations. Thorton happened to be at a base near Nal Hutta at the time of one attack. With the base surrounded by Black Sun vessels, Jesh and Kach successfully disabled a Black Sun battlecruiser that allowed most of those on the station to escape. United in anger, the smuggler’s organized a counterstrike. Thorton, in a beautiful job of managing people, managed to set himself up as leader. The united group decimated several hidden Black Sun bases in response, provoking further hostilities by Black Sun that resulted in an all-out conflict between the rival factions. Black Sun fleets battled planetary defense forces tipped off about Black Sun operations and were bribed to go after them. Eventually they even managed to obtain and crew a small fleet of Victory-class Star Destroyers, which they used to great effect to disrupt Black Sun shipping and assets. Though the Smuggler’s group would never be strong enough to defeat the Union, they did a significant amount of damage and seriously weakened some parts of the organization, which was one of the eventual causes of the Black Sun’s merger with the Jutraalian Syndicate. Though the conflict never officially ended, eventually things petered off until Black Sun was once again hiring outside smugglers. With the end of the war, though, the Alliance of smugglers remained intact to serve as a central organization to organize, maintain and defend smuggler interests across the galaxy. A number of kingpins including Talon Karrde, Booster Terrik, and Jorj Car’das as well as Kach and Jesh served on the board of the organization, with Kach elected as the head of day-to-day operations. The only problem was that Kach felt his future was elsewhere, though he didn’t know exactly where. Leaving the organization under the control of Jesh they parted ways, with Kach traveling to the region around the Hydian Way to ponder his future. After several months of his retirement the Empire took control of the system he was in. Due to a shortage of labor on the planet he was on, Thorton was faced with conscription as the planet struggled to fill recruitment quotas. Instead of fleeing as he easily could have or filing as a conscientious objector Kach accepted it when his draft notice showed up, and he passed the Imperial Navy’s entrance exams with flying colors. His scores in some areas including leadership and initiative were so good in fact that he received an opportunity to go to the Imperial Naval Academy on Anaxes, the most prestigious of the Naval Academies spread across the galaxy and a rare opportunity for someone who was not born an Imperial Citizen. Fully aware of what the appointment to the Academy required, he graciously accepted. Part II: Cadet Thorton At the Imperial Naval Academy Kach Thorton did not disappoint those who had managed to get him this opportunity. He stood out as an exceptional leader and tactician with plenty of initiative and drive that would ensure he would go far in His Majesty Hyfe’s service. Though he did not score notably good marks in his classes, he excelled in marksmanship, physical fitness and especially piloting. His innate rebelliousness and individualism, however, caused him to have very little free time during the thirty months at the academy. Few cadets know the Imperial Cadet Judicial system as thoroughly as he once did. His rebelliousness served him well, however, as it combined with his leadership ability caused some people higher up to take notice of this promising officer including a prominent Sector Admiral from the Borderland Protectorate, Tobias Gilford. Part III: His Majesty’s Officer Though Kach didn’t graduate anywhere near the top of his class, with his influence, Gilford managed to arrange for Thorton to be commissioned as a Commander (rather than a Lieutenant) on the bridge of an Ferro-class Medium Cruiser assigned to a rapid-response anti-pirate force stationed on the Hydian Way. After several months of successful campaigning against pirate bases an enterprising pirate warlord arranged an ambush of the Imperial squadron, which resulted in the death of the Ferro’s captain. Without a moment to spare Thorton stepped into the position of Captain of the ship and squadron commander, directing a successful defense that managed to preserve the squadron until a Star Destroyer arrived to reinforce them. After saving the squadron from almost certain destruction, Commander Thorton was promoted to Captain and given command of a Victory-class Star Destroyer. As a Captain, Thorton displayed considerable talent at commanding fleet actions (if only his superiors knew about his past!) and spent only a few months engaging planetary defense forces before he was promoted to Commodore and returned to chasing pirates. After several months of fighting pirates within the Cartao sector pirate activity in the region was almost entirely wiped out. With piracy almost eliminated in his former duty region, Thorton then began a series of assignments to expand the Empire’s holdings. In his first assault Kach took over the planet Myrkr, besting a pirate fleet that outgunned the Imperial flotilla two to one. Soon after, he successfully induced a pro-Empire revolution on the desert planet of Er’Kit and successfully took Gala as well. Favorably looked upon by his superiors, he was given temporary command of a Venerator-class Star Destroyer and sent to take over the mining planet of Bandomeer. What was expected to be a quick, bloodless takeover was soon disrupted by a meandering Coalition patrol several thousand lightyears away from its own territory. Though the eventual result was never in doubt, the Coalition disruption gave Thorton time to prove his mettle against enemies more competent than pirates or planetary defense forces. Despite setbacks, Bandomeer eventually chose to join the Empire. After nearly a year on station in the Hydian region and several campaigns the newly promoted Rear-Admiral Thorton was given a prestigious assignment (for a man of his rank and seniority) back in the core worlds, teaching at the Imperial Academy he had graduated from less than three years ago and filling in as a Squadron Commander when necessary. Because of his post, he began making connections with some highly-placed members of the central Imperial government, as well as well known professors at the Academy. His rebelliousness and independence nearly ended up costing him his commission, however, when he received word that hyperspace monitoring had detected coalition emissaries in route to a core world shipyard by the name of Foerost, which would give the coalition a potential base to strike Coruscant or the other core world from. Recognizing this threat, with no orders to do so he commanded the squadron he was in charge of at the time, a number of heavy cruisers, to head to the planet to prevent any sort of diplomatic meetings to take place. His impulsiveness and lack of planning nearly got him and his fleet destroyed over that planet, but just in the nick of time an Imperial Sector Fleet showed up, preventing any violence from taking place and forcing the Coalition emissaries to break off negotiations with the planet, denying them their base. Because his superiors recognized the threat that the base could have posed with hindsight, Thorton was sent back to the Hydian region instead of being imprisoned. Back under the command of Admiral Tobias Gilford, the Admiral offered Thorton the opportunity to correct the black mark on his record from the incident by retaking an extremely critical planetary system that had been accidentally deleted from Imperial computer records by a clerical error. Given a fleet and officially his choice of target (though Gilford advised him what planets to take in private) Thorton retook the planets Garos IV and Sundari, the galaxies only source of Hibridium (an essential ingredient in cloaking shields) and then loudly trumpeted the fact that he had prevented secret cloaking materials and technology from potentially falling into the hands of those it should be kept from. Bolstered by this essential conquest, Thorton’s image began to recover. It would take another major victory, however, to completely overshadow this blemish. As luck would have it, just the event was in the works as he returned from this conquest. Admiral Kris Enfield, a contemporary of Gilford’s, was persuaded to break away from the Empire by a senile but patriotic relative for the sake of “returning the Empire to its original values.” With a fleet of fifteen Star Destroyers they began a takeover of the extremely important bread-basket Agricultural planets in the region (giving the rebellion it’s most popular names “The Agra-rebellion” and “The Bread Basket Rebellion”) in an effort to cut off the Empire’s food supply. They took several dozen of these sorts of planets, cutting off the food supply for several hundred important core worlds and enraging Imperial citizens as food prices skyrocketed. With Admiral Gilford currently conducting business on Coruscant, it was up to Thorton to put down this rebellion. After meeting with early success as The True Empire attempted to fight a conventional war, Thorton became bogged down in a bloody guerilla war as his foes began focusing on disrupting food shipments instead of direct combat. Drawing on his experiences fighting pirates, Thorton organized an ambush utilizing Interdiction Pickets disguised as a convoy to ensnare the True Empire’s fleet and allowing it to be recaptured. With food prices stabilizing in the core and his name all over the holonews, for a brief time Kach Thorton was one of the most well known and popular men in the Imperial fleet. This, combined with some political maneuvering and the use of his connections established during his brief time in the Core Worlds along with Telan Desaria in putting down the Agra Rebellion managed to secure him the position of Moff when the former governor Moff Admar Brask fell ill and then succumbed to a heart attack. Part IV: His Majesty’s Governor As Governor of the Borderland Protectorate, Kach looked around them and saw nothing but threats. To the north sat the Commonweath, a growing galactic power. To the east the Black Dragon Empire, long dormant but always a threat. To the south lay an idealistic new republic, the Contegorian Confederation. Also, in the space between Black Dragon and the Confederation there were rumors of a new threat emerging, though details were few and far between. Under his command he had three well trained, well equipped fleets probably capable of taking on any of these threats. He wanted more, however, and began a massive rebuilding of the reserve forces in the region. Large quantities of retired warships sent to parking orbit around deep core planets for the day that they may be once again needed were requisitioned and sent to the protectorate to be manned by crews consisting of retired veterans, idealistic youths, and students looking for college handouts all serving one weekend a month and two weeks a year. Though the ships weren’t the newest or the crews the best, the expanded reserves gave Thorton an additional nine fleets that he could call upon with 48 hours notice. In addition to a vastly expanded navy in the region, ground reserves were expanded as well and huge defensive networks of tunnels that guerrilla wars could be fought from were constructed on all but the protectorate’s poorest planets. As governor Thorton showed himself to be a limited Keynesian economist, creating mass prosperity in Borderland space. In his protectorate he loosened business regulations, created subsidies to encourage mass exports, and reduced taxes as much as was practical, making up the difference in the budged with carefully limited deficit spending and taxes on imports. His economic policies were successful, creating an average growth of 4% per quarter economic for the 18 months he was in the position of governor before the Cataclysm, three times the growth rate for the rest of the Empire. During his tenure, efforts were also made to fight the pirating that took place on the Hydian and Permilian trade routes. Though pirating was never completely eliminated, during his tenure as Moff it did go into a significant decline. In addition to his gubernatorial duties, Moff Thorton began dabbling in conspiracy early in his service, his ambition and extreme self assurance propelling him to aspire to even greater heights in the Imperial Hierarchy. In a highly risky move, he talked the commander of COMPNOR into combining his resources with his own for both parties benefit, Thorton believing COMPNOR's role as the Empire's internal security service would later allow him the chance to move even higher within the Navy. In addition, the two began the groundwork for a coup that could be implemented at any time it became necessary with a maturation time of approximately 18 months, a maturation time that lined up almost perfectly with the beginning of The Cataclysm. V. Cataclysm The Cataclysm, for Thorton, began with the invasion of the Borderland Protectorate by the Reavers. Though initially successful at holding off this threat, with the disappearance of the Emperor and the attack on Yaga Minor the Regent of the Empire, appointed to take his place until a new Emperor could be appointed, demanded Kach withdraw all of his fleets from the Protectorate in an hurried grasp for fleets to fight the new aliens, an order that only took place after Zell had Thorton arrested temporarily while his own men executed the orders. Only through luck and his connections to COMPNOR, plus possibly a fear and respect for him he sensed in Zell, did he manage to avoid being forced down from his position as governor. From this event Kach developed a deep-seeded hatred for Grand Moff Zell, who he believed to be responsible for the gradual decay of the Empire during the Cataclysm. This decay included the loss of the Borderland Protectorate, the deaths of millions of Imperial Citizens from the consequential withdraw, the Empire's expulsion from the League of Nations, and the loss of Yaga Minor. These deep seeds of hatred caused him to put into action his carefully guarded plans for a coup to prevent further decline at the Regent's hands. Lucky for Thorton the opportunity for his coup came soon. After his crew noticed the literal disappearance of Coruscant - no messages or signals coming out of the planet - Kach quickly put the pieces together and responded by bringing two of his available fleets to Imperial Center to fight off the invaders, intercepting in the process a message from Zell to the reappeared Park Kraken appointing him Regent. Between this message (modified to mention him by name rather than Kraken by expert slicers), his fleet presence over Coruscant, COMPNOR's occupation of the Imperial Palace, and his role in the battle for Coruscant that took place, Kach had all the pieces he needed. All he needed to do was make his move... What does he plan next? Only Kach knows... .[IMG]
