Despite the increase in information stitched together over time, personal reports still conflict and various views and perceptions of the man continue to contradict each other leaving the question: Who is Simon Kaine? EARLY YEARS Born amid the rise of the Empire and during the beginning days of an organized resistance that would later be known as the Rebel Alliance, Simon Kaine, like most children, had a relatively normal and ambiguous life. His father, Tiren Kaine, was a Commander of a Strike Class vessel in the Imperial Navy whose typical patrol kept him close to home. His mother, Celeste Kaine, was from a wealthy family and her father, Senator Iomere, held a prominent position within the new Imperial Government. It was a time of great ambition and promise, before the true realities of The New Order coming to life all around them became fully evident. While some knew the Empire for what it was, many were still blinded by the facade Palpatine erected and happily promoted the solidification of the most tyrannical governments to come onto the galactic scene. But none of this interupted the bonds forged by a son and his mother. He went to sleep with the stories of his father's accomplishments filling his mind and an imagination that scaled to new heights. It was not until Simon was five years old did his life fully come into contact with the harsh realities of Palpatine's evil dream and the result would have galaxy-wide consequences. Historians of note would for years marvel at the interlocking of events and the irony of one Emperor's despicable act that would forge a boy of small note into yet another emperor that would come to support the very same cause. If one were to look back into history and pick a point where a small boy of little notice would eventually grow into the man we now know as Simon Kaine, that point would have to be at the creation of a single idea through Emperor Palpatine. And that idea? The wiping away of the Imperial Senate and the last memory of an Old Republic. From what has survived of that era, it is known that Tiren Kaine was engaged in an operation involving a friend of his, a newly appointed Imperator Commander, Captain Needa. Other names of note during this classified operation was a certain Captain Azrael Zell and Commander Daemon Hyfe. What is also known is that at the end of this operation, Tiren Kaine's loyalty (and those of his command) to the Empire was eroding. He had planned for his wife and son to arrange for transport off Imperial Center. What he and his wife had intended remains unknown but it stands to reason they would have headed into the arms of the fledgling Rebel Alliance. Unknown to both of them, however, was that the events leading up to Tiren's disloyalty were manipulated by Emperor Palpatine. Given emergency powers he had inacted legislation that would have the families of persons acting illegally directly accountable for those acts. It was one of the more stronger measures to contain the growing Rebellion. Such legislation gave Palpatine legal options to enforce Imperial justice on the family of Tiren Kaine. Needless to say, Celeste and her child, Simon, were caught and brought before the Emperor. By being able to decide the fate of Senator Iomere's only daughter, it gave the Emperor the control he needed to manipulate the Senator to his own plans, namely, the dissolution of the Senate. As fate would have it, Celeste Kaine had her son spared the punishment for his father's traitorous act by being the only one executed. Palpatine agreed to have her life instead of her son's for control over her father and so the agreement was sealed with her blood. With Senator Iomere in his pocket, Simon Kaine's life was spared. But where life would take the child was of no concern to Palpatine. And so Simon Kaine became a ward of the state and processed through many of the planetary orphanage systems. Simon, along with other orphans, were loaded on a transport and sent to the frontier in hopes of having a foster family take them in. And so a very young Simon Kaine found himself on a world on the fringe of Imperial space called Arcadia. A planet controlled more by smugglers and pirates giving only token acknowledgment of Imperial jurisdiction. For two years, he existed homeless, there being no real infrastructure to on Arcadia to care for, much less accept, orphan children. Eating from what other's left behind (trash, etc) he stayed one step ahead of starvation reverting to a more feral existence to remain alive. It was during this time that a pirate "with red eyes" brought a predatorial creature and infested the water supply of the planet. They were creatures no larger than snakes yet with a visciousness all their own. The creatures would be consumed by inhabitants, growing inside them until gestation when the creatures would eat their way out. The creatures soon roamed overland and began establishing clear dominance areas actively seeking larger food populations. The settlers of Arcadia began to develope ways to keep these creatures (called 'worms') at bay and soon life regained some sort of normality inspite of the infestation. Simon Kaine, living on the streets had, along with others in his situation, learned to handle these worms by avoiding certain areas and hunting them for food. He and others would go hunting for worms catching and removing their heads. Simon made a necklace of sorts with their heads and as the necklace rotted and dried, it became a necklace of small skulls worn on occassions during his later commands. The infestation was a plan to rid the planet of Imperial occupation (little as it was) and it would come to work. The man "with red eyes" would soon land men to enforce his own manner of occupation which ended in the murder of Kaine's childhood friend. Kaine's deep set hatred of Chiss (a people known for their natural red eyes) would find it's beginning here. These creatures were such a threat that what remained of any Imperial oversight soon left leaving the planet under quarantine. After seven years on Arcadia, a fourteen year old Simon Kaine would find himself enroute on a withdrawal transport bound for Corellia. IMPERIAL ACADEMY YEARS Having been conscripted coming off the transport on Corellia, a young and nearly feral Simon Kaine found himself tried in a lower court for assaulting an Imperial Recruiter. The only thing that saved him was the dispensation provision set forth in the record of his mother's death. Being saved from feeling the wrath of the Imperial Recruiter, Simon Kaine would soon find out how Imperial justice was handed out as he was drafted into the service and sent to the Academy on Carida. His youth and general inexperience in dealing with civilized humanity (after living like an animal on an Arcadia where a snake-like creature was dominant), it was thought that the young man would soon be dead of an accident as such things were known to happen with those who could not adapt. It was during this time that he distinguished himself by displaying a rare talent for strategic principles and comprehension. It was the famed Teron Test that ... FALL OF THE EMPIRE Politics would again play a part in deciding the fate of Simon Kaine as his application was passed over on more than one occassion for active command. Despite high marks, the stigma of being the son of a rebel seemed to factor more and more in the various administrative duties assigned to him during the destruction of the First Death Star and the subsequent Imperial victory at Hoth. It was not until some months later that he would get his first chance to see war up close and in person on a world undergoing a rather violent rebellion. He was a Major assigned to the staff of the Colonel assigned with stamping out all resistance on the world of Sotel. Little did he know that the assignment was nothing more than a cruel joke for it was his father who was the Rebel General commanding the forces arrayed against the Empire. An ill-timed strike during the very arrival of Kaine and a representative of the Imperial High Command left the Imperial forces without their Colonel and most of his staff. In a fit of a rush, the representative gave Kaine a field promotion to Colonel and the 256th Galactic Imperial Legion. A fighting force exhausted, ill-supplied and played out. The representative did not hold out hope for the forces on the planet but had other concerns to attend to. And while the Galaxy played out war on the grander stage, for two years, Simon Kaine and his father played the personal game of revolution and retribution. In the end, Kaine's father was killed in a battle outside the capital city breaking the back of the resistance and the 256th won the planet. The victory, however, was short lived and bittersweet for it was at that moment that the Emperor died and the 2nd Death Star destroyed. The Rebellion against the Empire had won and in the months that followed, the planet once more seethed with insurrection. Unequipped to hold the planet without support, the 256th left the world of Sotel for the stars hoping to find their brethren as the Empire was forced from the Core. ANARCHY AND DARKNESS It was during a time most historians call 'The Interim' that it is thought Kaine's more destructive ideology was firmly planted within his heart. With his legion off of the world of Sotel, they made their way to a planet from Kaine's past, Arcadia. Far enough away to avoid the eyes of the galactic power players and yet large enough to be a supply base for the 256th as they figured their next move which were, in fact, few. With no clear direction coming from Imperial Center, the 256th attached itself to one of the stronger Imperial players, the Warlord Zsinj. When it was clear that Zsinj was not the leader to win them back the Empire (and was, in fact, working against it), the 256th began to make plans of their own and that is when providence set in. At the battle of Selaggis, it was thought that the forces of Han Solo had destroyed the Warlord Zsinj and once more the 256th found itself without a cause on the frontier. It was at this time the 256th began to take a greater interest in the area surrounding Arcadia and found the Kingdom of Aridia. This "empire" only spanned their system of several worlds and was connected by a series of routes called Guildways. A working relationship with the Aridians began to form when a member of the 256th, a Major Willam, supported the idea to conquer the Aridians by supplanting their leaders. When Kaine decided to support the local leader, a King Agreon, the lines of division in the 256th began to sharpen. Gathering support against the King in his corner, Major Willam and his cohorts in the 256th launched a suprise attack against the King and his family hoping to bring down the government in one swift stroke. Colonel Kaine, Ibren Chandler and the rest of the 256th fought against their brothers in a bitter battle that ended in Kaine's favor and that of the Aridians. Major Willam and the traitorous members of the 256th were imprisoned on an Aridian world and forgotten. It was at this point in his life, having had no contact with any remnant of the Empire, that Kaine decided to throw in his lot with the Aridians and became engaged to King Agreon's daughter, Mya. A building project on a massive scale ensued as Kaine's influence with the ruling family was felt throughout the Kingdom even if not always appreciated. As a result, a small disatisfied faction rose and it was this faction that Major Willam used to arrange an escape and engineer yet another attack against the King and Simon Kaine. This time, he was successful and Simon Kaine was imprisoned. Little is known as to what actually transpired while imprisoned and how Kaine and the Aridians won their freedom but what is known is that the royal family were all killed and the Aridian Kingdom smashed beyond recovery. Their innocence lost, the surviving Aridians pledged personal loyalty to Kaine and he would make frequent trips to the cluster throughout his rise within the New Order until bringing Aridia silently into the fold after the restructuring of the Empire into protectorates after the Wrath Virus. RETURN TO THE EMPIRE EARLY CONQUESTS The arrival of Simon Kaine was not met with much fanfare as he was a relatively junior officer within a command hierarchy of ambitious soldiers like Chau Ming, Daemon Hyfe, Azrael Zell. It was his mission to Muunillist with Admiral Hyfe that brought the economic power of Moneyland back into the Imperial fold by breaking the corporation's hold of the world. Arliss Industries, the leading corporation was split at gunpoint, Seamus Arliss being given those assets outside of Muunillist (under Arliss Industries) and his daughter Jenice Arliss control of those assets on Muunillist (under the name, Arliss Towers). His aim was to keep both estranged father and daughter at odds thus serving his goals. The plan may have worked that way in the beginning but the split of the company compelled Seamus Arliss to make amends with his daughter and the Arliss corporate empire became a fixed feature in Imperial interests. It was Kaine's mission to Carida where he worked with Azrael Zell that would be the start of a partnership of sorts that would last until he first retired in the year...
