Name: Jarvis Ragnar
Species: Ryn
Age: approximately 29

Jarvis Ragnar was born on Centerpoint Station, the son of a basically homeless Ryn couple. Because of the intense distrust most people held toward Ryn, it was hard for Jarvis' father to keep a job, or even find someone that would let him rent an apartment.

After a few years, Jarvis' father got a job on a public transport as a mechanic, and Jarvis and his mother spent the next several years traveling the galaxy in their small, dark quarters.

But Jarvis' father was soon fired when another worker accused him of stealing. There was no reason to believe the father had done anything wrong, but he was a Ryn, and nobody trusts a Ryn.

The next few months were very difficult for the small family, and soon, Jarvis, now about ten, realized his family could not support him. He decided to run away, leaving a message to let his parents know why he had left.

Jarvis spent the next several years living on the streets, playing music and doing tricks for tips, and sometimes, when things got really tough, delivering packages he was told not to ask questions about. It was Jarvis' first experience with the "gray" area of right and wrong, and though he knew he probably shouldn't be doing it, he had to eat, and food costs money.

Jarvis wasn't the only youth in such a position. There were several others in basically the same shape, doing things they didn't want to do, just to make it from day to day. Jarvis befriended many of them, and the group of young companions trudged on, dreaming of brighter days.

At the age of fifteen, Jarvis had had enough; he set out for the spaceport with two of his friends, Grennith, a rodian, and Zal Marrick, a Twi'lek: two species almost as despised as the Ryn.

The three spent the next several years drifting from job to job, never staying anywhere long enough for their employers to mistrust them, for reasons real or imagined. The three soon drifted apart, and at the age of twenty three, Jarvis was offered a permanent position onboard a Wookie captain's medium freighter called The Wandering One. It wasn't illegal work, but it was dangerous; The captain, named Yalla, often took jobs that would lead them through pirate-dominated space, or right along some faction boundary in the middle of a major conflict. Those were the kind of jobs that paid the best, and those were the kind of jobs the female Wookie was just crazy enough to take.

Jarvis became the ship's handyman, in typical Ryn fashion, and did everything from patching uniforms to helping repair the sublights to manning a laser cannon during pirate attacks. For the first time in his life, Jarvis felt like he had a home. As many crewmen came and went, Jarvis remained fiercely loyal to his captain. Once, in a meeting with a potential client gone bad, Jarvis took a knife to the gut protecting her form a Trandoshan that was trying to sneak up behind her.

Though she did not strictly follow the traditions of her people, Yala felt honor-bound to repay Jarvis, and made him her first officer.

Jarvis felt like he had conquered the galaxy. He had gone farther and done more than he could have ever dreamed. But little did he know, his story had only just begun . . .

His captain soon took a job from a kuati noble, which ended in the captain's death and the destruction of an underground slave network. Jarvis took command of the freighter, and after helping to relocate the former slaves, he set out on his most important mission: making "a family he could trust." He traveled to Ryloth where he found and freed Zal Marrick, a friend from his childhood.

While on business at the planet Varn, an attacking pirate group destroyed his freighter, killing his entire crew except himself and Zal. In the process of escaping the world, they gained two new companions, a Ubese named Allara and a Ryn named Ferril, and stole a blastboat and Preybird from the pirates.

The four traveled to Nar Kreeta where Jarvis hoped to reconnect with another childhood friend, but after finding him, they were forced to work for the local Hutt crime lord in order to gain protection from the pirates, who were still hunting them. Jarvis and his crew proved their worth in more ways than one, but they remained near-slaves under the Hutt's rule. In a desperate attempt to escape, the five launched a fairly large attack in which their Hutt master and many of his henchmen were killed.

Finally free, Jarvis was content to sit with his new-found family in a circle on the bridge of his ship, sharing stolen alcohol and telling stories of about their lives.
