Newbie Character Ideas

Tips From the Wizened and Elderly Gash: First of all, choose a basic template for your character's identity. Jedi, Sith, smuggler, whatever; this choice should be your first decision, along with your species. You can mix character types, but don't go crazy. Too many people have, in the words of the incomparable Omnae, made "Jedi/ShadowJedi/Imperial/Sith/Human/Chiss/Wookiee/Bounty-Hunter-With-Glowing-Eyes" characters. I fully encourage people to explore races other than human. Frankly, human characters have been utterly exhausted, and people willing to give non-humans a shot will be respected for originality.

After this, I personally advise defining in your mind his or her basic personality. Don't recycle ideas; cocky, swaggering smugglers and wise old Jedi Masters espousing couplets of wisdom have been done. On the other hand, don't do something that clashes utterly with your character's "class", so to speak: a Jedi who likes to kill orphans and torture homeless people won't fly. Try to map out, in your mind, where you want to go with the character. If you're making a Jedi who you want to become a Knight, but not go any further because of his rebellious nature, this should define how you act pretty well. Some people prefer to just free-style their characters and let come what may, but frankly, this tends to give you hodge-podge, shoddy characters with no defined personality. There's plenty more wisdom I can pontificate upon for you. My AIM is monotonesavior1; IM me anytime, kids.
