I'm new, what can I do?
This could be a complex answer. To be truthful, you can do almost anything you want on TRF, provided you use the common sense that is instilled in everyone at birth. Since I cannot specify what a newbie has to do, I'll provide a list of suggestions of things that I would strongly recommend any beginner to do.
1 - Read the rules.
This one is a no-brainer. Read the rules, and if you have questions, ask in the OOC forum. Everyone was a beginner at one time, you'll find us more than happy to explain anything confusing. You only have to read the top part of the rules (general conduct); the bit about fleeting probably won't apply to you yet.
2 - Register and confirm your username
This too, is a no-brainer. You can't do any discussion in our forums unless you have a valid username. This isn't hard to do; it will only take a few minutes of your time. Head on over here and do it now if you haven't already. If your confirmation email does not come through, you can click here to re-send it.
3 - Post a hullo message
This is probably a user-specific suggestion. Some people feel silly posting a "Hi I'm new" thread, and others don't. If you don't feel like doing it, don't. If you do post one you will receive copious amounts of greetings.
4 - Lurk!
Hopefully you've already been doing some of this. I would encourage you to do so, if you haven't already. If you don't know what lurking means, well, it's pretty simple. A Lurker is someone who reads, but posts not at all, or very little. Lurking is a great way to learn more about a community and how it works without making a fool of yourself by posting constantly.
5 - Test the Role-Playing waters
We have a forum that was created specifically for newbies to gain their wings with. The Astral Astoria is a forum with a single-theme, indeed, it is our only single-themed forum. It's based around a mysterious space station that appeared out of nowhere one day, smack in the middle of a major trading route in the Corporate Sector. Feel free to start a thread, or reply to any thread not marked 'Closed'.
