Research and Development

R&D's are designs for technologies that you wish to use that aren't found in Star Wars canon. Before, most technologies went through a time consuming process for approval that could be fairly frustrating.

Gone are the massive SBD and hull values. Gone are the number of weapon blisters located on the aft ventral quarter. Gone are the MGLT values and number of hyperdrive backups.

Now, all that is required of you is to be reasonable about a design and it's use and no one will care.

Whether your design is a radical new approach to technology or an improvement on existing technology, the R&D Forum will serve as an information forum to display your masterpieces. The R&D's should be organized by group.

To submit an R&D: you must first write out how it works, in what is called an 'R&D Document'. This is what you will be submitting to the R&D Moderators for organizing in the R&D Information Forum. You need to write out a description of the technology, as well as an extended description of what it can do. A short (~500 word) role-play showing its every use is also required. Appropriate additions to the R&D Document can include the size of your R&D and a brief description of what it looks like.

Think of the R&D submission like a character biography giving fellow members an idea of what your new technologies are all about and how they might be described.

Please note that there is no more approval for R&D submissions.

Once the R&D is submitted, the R&D Moderators will examine it, and request changes or further explanation as they see fit as they organize it in the R&D Information Forum. After it is listed, you should default to the #1 Rule prior to use. This means, once listed, would it make sense for you to have it in your stories, right away, or should you write about it being built (example: if you find a technology, then you could use it right away, but if you R&D'ed a large ship, then you should wait for a while first)?

But how will moderators and staff keep people from abusing this open R&D system?
Simple. If someone does not have common sense when it comes to R&D's (design and use) they will no longer be allowed to post in R&D section and they will lose R&D privileges.
